It's a new service
where friends can exchange position data
and see each other on the chart in TIKI Navigator.
If you are not on the
same chart, TIKI will show your buddies in a separate window. Your friends
positions are shown with a courseline and speed indicator, just like your
own boat.

What
do you need?
Besides TIKI Navigator Pro and a GPS all
you and your friends need is a mobile phone or another device with
Internet connection and a genius little program called GpsGate ($ 30,-).
The mobile phone must be able to communicate with the PC for instance with Bluetooth.
How
does the system work?
A group of friends register on a free
server www.gpsgate.com. Each member sets up the program GpsGate to send
position data to the server - and to receive position data from everybody
in the group i.e. every 15 seconds, every 30 seconds
or what ever interval you want.
TIKI Navigator receives the data from GpsGate and puts the boats on the
chart if they are close - and in a separate chart window if they are
far apart. Because the data is sent and received over the Internet, you
can exchange position data with friends anywhere in the world.
Is it
expensive?
No, if you have a mobile telephone that
is connected to the Internet, you only pay for the amount of data that is
sent or received. Buddy Tracking requires only
a few bytes of data. Prices will vary from country to country, but for
each member in a group of 3 who is exchanging position data every 15.
seconds, it will probably cost less than 2 US dollars a day if you run the
system 24 hours a day.
